Google plans to build a massive system for taking advantage of solar energy in its headquarters, city of Mountain View in California. Solar energy will be transforming itself to an electric energy with a help of 9212 solar panels, and predictions are that the strength gained from it should be about 1.6 megawatts. Just for comparison, that strength is well enough to provide with electricity thousand of average Californian households. Acquired energy will cover 30% of all energy needed for normal functioning of the Google's headquarter. Installation of the system in campus will be over in the spring of 2007, and by completing it this will become the largest solar energy exploitation system installed in some corporative residence in USA.
Solar panels will be mounted on the rooftops on some campus buildings and as a sun protection on parking lots. Google refused to give information how much money will complete system installation cost, but they estimate that system will repay itself through lower electricity bills in period in which they rented building in campus. Representatives of the El Solutions company (project’s executioners) claim that panels are usually lasting about 20 to 25 years, and in five to ten years repay its whole investment.
With obtained electrical energy Google also expects decrease of the buildings' air-conditioning expenditures, because rooftop panels will absorb solar energy, decreasing amount of the heat which without it would be absorbed by the building top floors. Moreover, it is expected that this system will also negate the myth that high profits and ecological consciousness don't go together, and that should have positive reflect to company stock prices.
